Antique Surveyor's Rod
Bring a distinctive architectural touch to your home with this antique British surveyor’s levelling staff, full of character and industrial charm.
Crafted from hardwood with a painted cream and black scale, brass fittings and hand-marked calibrations, this period instrument features a sliding telescopic extension with catches, clamps and joints. Display it extended as a striking focal point, or arrange its three sections separately as a wall-mounted triptych.
Years of working use have left a wonderfully timeworn finish, with scratches, discolouration and wear to the painted scale, alongside cracks and splits in the wood. The brass fittings show tarnish and oxidation, while the aged joints still hold firmly.
Particularly striking displayed along a stairwell, its numbered sections could also make a playful decorative backdrop for marking childhood growth—a charming new chapter for an old working instrument.
